Basketball Is The Most Competitive Sport In America.
Whether you’re a brand-new player or a seasoned veteran vying for college scholarships, the competition you encounter on the court will be fierce. 99% of today’s elite high schoolers fall into one of three categories (and the very best often fall into all three):
They had a ball in their hands before 4 years old and had already logged tens of thousands of hours in the gym by the time they hit middle school.
They are extreme physical outliers — 6’8”+ and extraordinarily athletic.
Their parents invested tens of thousands of dollars every year into securing them top-tier coaches, trainers, and skill development programs.
That begs the question — How are regular kids expected to compete?
Enter Dragon Army Basketball.
Here at DAB, we firmly believe that no matter your current skill level, you can learn to hold your own on the court with the best of the best.
It’ll take time, and it’ll take work, but if you’re willing to put the hours in, you will get better.
We can help you get better faster. Much faster. Faster than you would on your own and faster than you would with any of the dime-a-dozen online “skill development” trainers who are more concerned with gimmicky drills and viral marketing campaigns than they are with actually developing players’ skills.
Here’s how:
Drills That Work
It’s always impressive to go on Instagram and see a guy blindfolded with a parakeet on his shoulder moonwalking down a busy city sidewalk while dribbling 5 basketballs. Is that the most efficient way to get better, though? Probably not.
Skill development is simple. Take all the skills you’ll need to perform successfully in game situations, then find ways to practice those skills over and over and over again.
DAB Drills is home to our ever-expanding library of drills that will actually make you better. Whether you’re looking for basic exercises fit for Kindergarteners or complex and challenging techniques designed to take superstars to the next level, we’ve got you covered.
Any skill that might ever need access to on a basketball court, we have a drill for.
Advanced Basketball Theory
Everyone in the NBA is physically gifted and tremendously skilled. So, what separates benchwarmers from Hall-of-Famers?
The ability to make fast-paced, high-level reads.
A solid foundation of skills is great (and necessary), but skills aren’t worth anything if you don’t know how or when to employ them. If you need proof, go watch the NBA Summer League — tell me how many formerly-elite college players you see make a great move to beat their man, only to go barreling headfirst into three guys when they reach the lane because they weren’t prepared to read and respond to any help defenders that might happen to rotate over.
These players aren’t suffering from a lack of skill or physicality — they’re just unable to make reads against NBA-level competition. They’re incredibly skilled, but because they aren’t able to process the pro game fast enough, they only have access to a negligible percentage of their total skillsets.
Being able to read the game at a high level makes any skills you do have exponentially more effective. A semi-skilled, semi-physical player who can process the game at an elite level will always perform better than an elite talent who can’t make good reads. It doesn’t matter if you’re in 5th grade, high school, or the NBA — if you can process the game at a high level and are just skilled enough to execute after making reads, you’ll be incredibly successful.
By subscribing to Dragon Army Basketball, you’ll gain access to articles that teach you how to process the game faster and make more efficient reads.
Do you know which help defender you should be watching (and what you should be watching for) when you come off a high pick-and-roll in the flat? What about the most effective ways to create scoring opportunities when your team runs a five-out offense with lots of weak-side action?
No? Not a problem — we do know the answers to those questions (and a thousand other questions just like them) and are going to teach you.
The Film Room
In addition to all the long-form written content we’ll be putting out for paid subscribers, there will be weekly video breakdowns of college and NBA game film available to VIP members (those who participate in the “founding members” program).
Grab a front-row seat to watch as we analyze:
Elite players and the go-to skillsets that make them so effective
Situational reads and the best ways to attack different defensive setups
Pick and roll reads
How to create offense even when you don’t have the ball
And much, much more.
Cutting-Edge Tips, Tricks, And Techniques
We’re always looking for new information that might give our players the edge they need. Even when you’re skilled in the fundamentals and can make high-level reads, there are still things you can do to perform at a higher level.
And any time we find a gem of knowledge that will pay dividends on the court — whether that be the breathing exercises Steph Curry uses to super-charge his conditioning or the visualization techniques Olympic athletes are practicing to maximize performance in high-pressure situations — you’ll be the first to know.
